Hin Kong Bars and Restaurants
Hin Kong has a good selection of bars, restaurants and cafes to choose from. You will find the usual collection of small Thai restaurants along the roadside offering noodles, curries and seafood.
Alcove Bistrot and Romanzo Tropicale lead the way in offering excellent European cuisine. Those looking to keep it healthy have the excellent One Love Kitchen at Ananda Wellness Resort.
In the evening there are a few cool beachfront bars to check out. At Freeway Bar you get the traditional rasta vibe, and at the Jam you have band nights.
Hin Kong like Srithanu has a thriving scene with plenty going on and plenty of great spots to hang out and meet like-minded people.
Run by an American woman. Lots of different organic chocolate to choose from. They serve tea and coffee and have small hippy-style events. Sadly closed.
Run by 2 French ladies with a background in French cuisine. French food and wine at a nice chilled location on the beach.
Wan cooks excellent Thai dishes. Try her signature orange curry. Also available are a few Western options and vegetarian meals. The orange curry and rice costs 150 Thai Baht.
Goats cheese pizza, tuna tartar, panacotta - Angels Bay has a good menu with some tasty options that will make you want to come back to try something else. This is a delightful beach front restaurant. French, Italian, Fusion.
The restaurant at Ananda is open to both guests and members of the general public not staying at the centre or following courses. It is a pleasant Thai style restaurant that prides itself in preparing food fit for the karmically fussy. Here you will find raw food, vegan food, vegetarian food and Thai food without the extra sugar, and not deep fried. The Love Kitchen also does fresh fruit and vegetable juices.
Italian beachfront restaurant. They bake fresh bread every day. Pizza, pasta and anti-pasta with some nice sunset views. You can't miss the sunset terrace when you drive the coastal road. This place has made it to the top of the review pile.
No beach in Koh Phangan is complete without a reggae bar and Freeway is Hin Kong's contribution. This is a funky beach bar made from wood, drift wood and flotsam and jetsam that has washed up on the beach. Beers, cocktails, fresh coconut and wrongly spelt bloody Mary all are on the menu. They have seating inside as well as outside on the beach. See the video on the right.
This bar has become an institution in Koh Phangan. They have regular open mic and band nights. Check their Facebook Page for the latest.
Just next door to the Jam. This is another creative space for the international crowd of south west Koh Phangan. They do excellent cocktails, host DJs, fire shows and a range of other impromtu gatherings. They also do sweet treats hence the Trip advisor category. One Love is beachfront. This place has also closed.
